Excitement Marks!

Tell the truth! Do I use too many exclamation points! Does it seem false and untrue, because in real life I frequently talk in a monotone, in which my upper lip does not move very much?

Miss Information

So, I tend to be a very skeptical person. When I hear certain facts, especially if they are eyebrow raising kinds of facts, I want to check them out before I believe them. Recently, I have been noticing that I didn't used to be this way. I notice this because some "facts" that I have known for a relatively long time are not facts at all! That's right, I have urban legends in me!

Take for instance, Red Bull. At some point in college (not so very long ago, my how my skepticism has grown!), someone told me that Red Bull had bull testosterone in it. The hidden name- Taurine. "Wow," I said. "Gross," I said. I didn't, however, say "Hmmm, maybe, maybe not." I did not look it up. It became a fact in my brain, which I have since disseminated. Shame on me! Taurine is actually a substance originally found in an animal (not bull) source, but now produced synthetically. It has no association with testosterone.

I am embarrassed that I have spread urban legends. I am shocked and appalled to know that these little easter eggs of falsity are still lurking in my brain. So, from now on, my skepticism will need to apply to everyone. Even myself!

Hotlanta? Houston is hotter!

So, I came out to visit my sisters in Houston. It's not a very long visit, unfortunately, but I'm taking off work later in the summer for a family reunion. I don't know if I just feel like they don't really like it when I take vacation, but I always feel guilty. I am getting nearer the point where I start losing vacation if I don't take it, though.

Anyway, my life is so very interesting on a day to day basis, that I bet you are thinking that it must be extra crazy when I am on vacation. Boy are you right. For instance, last night I helped Jenny with her research paper. Jealous!

We did have a fun night on Saturday. We went out to a club and danced and sang Karaoke. Randy and Jamie joined us, too. Randy did a stirring rendition of Kid Rock's song Bawadita or whatever it's called. It left the crowd speechless. Later, all five of us sang "You've too late" by the Jovi. The crowd, who were mostly wearing cowboy hats and two stepping during other Karaoke songs, were very impressed. Good times.

Yesterday, we went to Randy and Jamie's and Greg and Rachelle and kids came out, too, for a good old family cookout. Christy made me some vegetarian ribs, which were good except for when they were a little too much like real meat. Greg told an excellent story about a time when Randy's brains were hanging out of his eye. I'm just kidding about the brains... it was a mysterious yellow substance. Greg put it back in Randy's eye for him, so, you know, he's fine and dandy today.

Well, I have had a lot of fun on my vacation, even if I didn't jump out of a plane or anything, so stop judging me. Tomorrow I go back to my regular life. Tear.

Memey Thing

Because my mom "tagged" me, here is my participation in The Six-Words Meme.

"Boundless hope, but still a cynic."

It strikes me as a bit of a chain letter, so I am not tagging anyone. If you would like to share a contribution, you can add a comment, though.

The Six-Words Meme, which was originally started by Smith Magazine. The history is thus:

Legend has it that Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Last year, SMITH Magazine re-ignited the recountre by asking our readers for their own six-word memoirs. They sent in short life stories in droves, from the bittersweet (“Cursed with cancer, blessed with friends”) and poignant (“I still make coffee for two”) to the inspirational (“Business school? Bah! Pop music? Hurrah”) and hilarious (“I like big butts, can’t lie”).

The rules...
1) Write your own six word memoir.
2) Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like.
3) Link to the person that tagged you in your post, and to the original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere.
4) Tag at least five more blogs with links.
5) Don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.
6) Have fun.

Personally, I think including Hemingway's story is a little unfair. Who can compete with that? I mean, it was six words and it almost made me cry. Anyway, I think I have carpal tunnel, so I better not ramble on anymore...

Oh, here's my mom's post, in case you want to trace it back: http://fierce-rabbit.livejournal.com/420607.html
